Harriet Burnett-Livermore was born in the United Kingdom to Barbadian parents, Grace K. Burnett-Gooding and Edward Gooding. After moving to New York City in 1983, she was educated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and St. Jean Baptiste High School, later attending Long Island University. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Harriet pursued a career in education, serving in early childhood and youth development programs across New York City. Her leadership with the YMCA of Greater New York earned her the Supervisor Employee Performance Award in 2015. That same year, she launched a SONYC program at I.S. 229 Roland Patterson School, transforming it from a struggling school to a thriving community hub through innovative programming and parent engagement. Alongside her mother, affectionately known as Mama Grace, Harriet expanded her outreach to support both youth and seniors through educational workshops, food distributions, and wellness initiatives. Her dedication has been recognized with the Women of Labor Award (2022) from Assemblywoman Latoya Joyner and commendations from Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson. Today, Harriet continues to advocate for education, empowerment, and cultural unity, especially within the Barbadian and Bronx communities, striving to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to move from “good to great.”
